Brooklyn

Brooklyn was born June 5th, 2023. She had trouble breathing from the start. She was born missing skin in some areas, as well as missing a few fingernails. She was transferred to the U of M Masonic hospital. She ended up with the best team!!! Genetic testing was done, though her dermatologist knew it was EB, just not for sure on the gene mutation, and we needed confirmation on sub type. We got results a few weeks later confirming her JEB diagnosis with LAMA3 gene mutation. All of this was a lot to take in. It was scary, it was a complete unknown. Brooklyn has taught us bravery beyond measure! She has taught me how to have a voice, how to advocate for her needs. She has faced so many obstacles and has always overcome each and every one of them! She is on a path of her own and always amazes everyone with her accomplishments! JEB did give her a trach due to airway failure, but she took to her trach with positivity and confidence. She also has a g tube that was placed at the same time so she receives proper nutrition so she can continue to grow! She is always so determined, happy, wild, feisty, sassy, and so many more things! Being an EB mom is hard but I am strong because of Brookie. Not only is it advocating for medical care. It's ordering meds, scheduling appointments, ordering medical supplies, arguing with insurance, wound care, infection control, medication knowledge, I could go on forever. Everything I do is for her! Brooklyn is the brightest ray of sunshine! We are so blessed she is our strong warrior, queen B daughter! We are blessed to be by her side, to watch her grow and conquer the world! EB is tough, but she is tougher than EB!
