Mackenzie was born in October 2024 — during EB Awareness Week — as the third daughter in her family. Doctors immediately noticed she was missing skin and had blisters on her lips. Additional blisters developed quickly, and the dermatology team officially diagnosed her with EB. Mackenzie's life has been filled with extensive, painful wound care, infection management, and multiple therapy and medical appointments every week. She relies on over 20 medications and a medical team of more than 10 providers. Pain is a near-constant part of her life — and yet, her spirit shines. She has the most infectious laugh and the sweetest nose scrunch when she smiles. Despite everything, Mackenzie is a happy, spirited, wonderfully sassy 19-month-old who brings joy to everyone around her.
